Head-to-head kayak action takes over the class III and IV rapids of the Competition Channel in this single elimination race. Each competitor is guaranteed one timed run while negotiating a minimum of three mandatory gates with up to 6 other boaters in each heat. Head-to-head runs will follow based on rankings from timed runs, with the fastest competitors advancing to the next round. For all whitewater races, participants must have prior experience on similar whitewater in the same discipline (kayak or SUP). Participants must provide their own equipment. Boats must be plastic and no longer than nine feet. C1’s and K1’s will race in the same category. Men and women will race together should there not be sufficient paddlers for separate classes.

Circumnavigating Sadler Island within the flatwaters of the Catawba River, this sit-on-top kayak race is a fan favorite. Participants can choose between the 1.25 mile (one lap) and 2.5 mile (two laps) distances. Kayaks are limited, but are included on a first-come, first-serve basis. Racers will need to check-in for the Flatwater Kayak Race at the Flatwater Center to receive a paddle, PFD and race number. After receiving equipment, all racers will proceed to the Flatwater Dock for the race start.

Paddlers will race head-to-head throughout 13 grueling laps on the Wilderness Channel. This all-out sprint and mass-start race will begin in the upper pond of the whitewater river. For all whitewater races, participants must have prior experience on similar whitewater in their respective discipline (kayak or SUP). Participants must provide their own equipment. Boats must be plastic and no longer than nine feet. C-1’s and K-1’s will race in the same category.

Paddlers with slalom and recreational boats are welcome to join in this slalom-style race. The course will include upstream and downstream gates within the class II and III Wilderness Channel. For all whitewater races, participants must have prior experience on similar whitewater in the same discipline (kayak or SUP). Participants must provide their own equipment.

Designed specifically for families and/or friends, teams of two will paddle on the Catawba River and around Sadler Island. Each team should include one youngster (ages 4 to 17) and one adult (ages 18 & above). Kayaks are limited, but are included on a first-come, first-serve basis. Racers will need to check-in for the Young & Old Tandem Kayak Race at the Flatwater Center to receive a paddle and PFD. After receiving equipment, all racers will proceed to the Flatwater Dock for the start of the race.

Taking place at the Well Hole feature on the Wilderness Channel, each competitor will have three 45-second sessions to lay down their best tricks. Paddlers will be judged on completed moves, style, and bonus trick points. For all whitewater events, participants must have prior experience on similar whitewater in their respective discipline (kayak or SUP). Participants must provide their own equipment.
